Biography

2009 OUTLOOK: Enters the fall as one of the staring safeties after an outstanding spring practice…will see significant playing time on special teams…expected to be a leader on the field.

JSU CAREER:

2008: Played in all 11 games as a junior for the Gamecocks, earning his first career start at Tennessee Tech on Nov. 8…racked up 37 tackles, seventh on the team, including 18 solo stops…picked up two interceptions and two pass break-ups…made two solo stops against Tennessee State (11/15)...posted a career-high 11 tackles, one behind the line, and an interception versus Tennessee Tech (11/8)...had three tackles, two solos, against Austin Peay (11/1)...posted two solo tackles in the UT Martin game (10/23)...had one tackle and a pass break up versus Murray State (10/18)...credited with two solo tackles against EKU (10/11)...had two solo tackles against Southeast Missouri (10/4)...credited with one tackle against EIU (9/27)...recorded two tackles and had his first career interception in the Chattanooga (9/20) game...had a career-high seven tackles, five solos, against Alabama A&M (9/6)...recorded four tackles, three solos, and had one tackle for a loss of two yards in the season opener versus Georgia Tech (8/28).

2007: Saw action in all 11 games for the Gamecocks as a sophomore, mainly in a reserve role and on special teams…tallied 18 tackles, 15 solo, including one for a loss…also broke up one pass against Tennessee Tech on Oct. 20…recorded a season-high six tackles, all solo, in that TTU game, including his lone tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

2006: Appeared in 10 of the Gamecocks’ 11 games as a freshman…picked up 12 tackles, 11 solo, including one for a loss against Southeast Missouri on Sept. 16…recorded a season-best four tackles, all solo, in the season finale at Eastern Illinois on Nov. 18…returned five punts on the season for an average of 2.6 yards.

HIGH SCHOOL:
Played at Edgewood Academy for Bobby Carr…earned four letters with the Wildcats…was a three-year starter…named All-State as a senior after rushing for a school record 1405 yards and led Elmore County with 148 tackles on defense…finished with 2094 all-purpose yards with 20 touchdowns…helped team to the AISA state runner-up his senior year and was named the Montgomery Advertiser AISA Metro Player of the Year…lettered in basketball for two years…also lettered in powerlifting, where he tied AISA state record for 165 pound class in squat with over 400 pounds while inning both squad and bench press events…won the inaugural Joe Sewell Memorial Award, presented to the Male Athlete of the Year in Elmore County.

PERSONAL: Full name is Joshua Michael Cain…son of Mike and Tina Cain…born on November 7, 1986…nickname is Spray Paint…has one younger brother, Brian…majoring in Computer Science at JSU.
