Jacksonville State University Athletics

JSU OUTLOOK: Missed some of the spring with a shoulder injury, but has made a fully recovery and is expected to add depth at the offensive guard position.

JSU CAREER:
2008: Saw action in five games as a reserve offensive lineman…played 42 plays, grading 52 percent overall and 61 percent on pass plays…had two pancake blocks and two knockdown blocks…played season-high 12 snaps against Murray State (10/18).

2007: Played in four games as a freshman…saw significant time against Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Southeast Missouri…earned highest grade of the season against APSU at 81 percent.

2006: Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Alan Lee at St. Clair County High School…was twice named team Lineman of the Year and was team captain as a senior…finished his senior season with 130 knockdowns, 95 tackles, nine sacks and six forced fumbles…was a Second-Team All-State selection in 2005…was twice named All-Region as the Saints posted a 9-3 record in 2005 and 7-4 in 2004…was named Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

PERSONAL: Full name is Matthew Ray Washington…son of Mike and Donna Washington…born on July 12, 1988…has one younger sister, Emmy…his grandfathers played baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals…majoring in liberal studies.
