JSU CAREER:
2012: Started 10 games for the Gamecocks as a junior…finished the season with 22 tackles, making10 solo stops and 12 assists…recorded his only interception of the season against Eastern Illinois on Oct. 13…also had a season-high five tackles in the game…tied that season high once again with five tackles against UT Martin on Nov. 3…finished with three tackles against Tennessee State on Oct. 20.
2011: Appeared in the first seven games of the season for the Gamecocks as a sophomore, starting at Chattanooga on Sept. 10…recorded 14 tackles on the year, 10 solo…had 11 of his stops in the first two games with six in the season opener vs. UT Martin on Sept. 1 and five more at Chattanooga the next week…had one tackle behind the line of scrimmage in the UT Martin game.
2010: Appeared in 11 of the Gamecocks’ 12 games as a true freshman, earning his first career start against Austin Peay on Oct. 23…finished the season with 25 tackles, 18 solo, including one sack and three stops for a loss…forced two fumbles and notched one quarterback hurry…made his JSU debut in its home opener vs. UTC and forced a fumble and recorded a tackle in the win…had a season-high six tackles in the regular-season finale at Tennessee Tech on Nov. 20…had a tackle for a loss in three-straight games, vs. Tennessee State, vs. Austin Peay and at Eastern Kentucky, picking up his lone sack in the TSU matchup, one that saw him force his second fumble of the season…recorded four tackles at Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 6.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Mill Creek High School for Shannon Jarvas…was a four-year letterman for the Hawks.
PERSONAL: Full name is James Emmanuel Powell…born on September 7, 1990…son of Jim and June Powell…has one younger sister, Cari…majoring in physical education at JSU.
