JSU CAREER:
2018: Made 11 starts in 12 appearances in his junior year as a Gamecock receiver…was third on the team in receptions with 392 yards and two touchdowns…averaged 33 yards a game with 11 yards a catch and a long of 49…longest catch came on August 25 against North Carolina A&T for the Gamecocks’ first touchdown of the season…also returned nine punts for 75 yards…returned a kick for 27 yards against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 22…turned in 467 all-purpose yards for the season.
2017: After transitioning to a wide receiver for the 2017 season, Byrd appeared in all 12 games…saw his first action on the offensive side of the ball in the Gamecocks’ season-opening win over Chattanooga on Aug. 26…caught one pass for 11 yards against Murray State on Nov. 4…the catch against the Racers set his career-high for receptions in a game, most receiving yards and longest play…returned four kicks for 82 yards…returned a kick 18 yards at UT Martin on Nov. 11…picked up 53 yards on a pair of kickoff returns in the final regular season contest against Tennessee State on Nov. 16…turned in 93 all-purpose yards.
2016: Appeared in 11 games as a conerback as a redshirt freshman…made his collegiate debut in the Gamecocks’ 31-12 victory over North Alabama to start the season…finished the season with 17 tackles, nine solo and eight assisted…set a career-high with four tackles against UNA…had multiple-tackle games in five total games, including three against Youngstown State in the playoffs.
2015: Sat out the season as a redshirt.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Greg Seibert at Pensacola Catholic in Pensacola, Fla…had 46 catches for 700 yards and six touchdowns as a senior for the Crusaders…as a junior in 2013, caught 34 passes for 669 yards and eight touchdowns…was selected to play in the Subway All-Star Football Game at the end of his senior season and was an All-Area selection by the Pensacola News-Journal.
PERSONAL: Born on Nov. 1, 1996, in Mobile, Ala…the son of Ervin and Donna Byrd…has a younger sister, Destiny…majoring in business at JSU.
