Biography

2009 OUTLOOK: Made the transition from safety to outside linebacker during the spring…a very physical player who brings speed and athleticism to the position…expected to play a vital role in the kicking game.

JSU CAREER:
2008: Played in 10 of the Gamecocks’ 11 games as a sophomore, earning the start at UT Martin on Oct. 23…was 10th on the team in tackles with 32, 17 solo…had seven tackles for a loss, including two sacks, while breaking up two passes and defending another…had two solo tackles in the Tennessee State game (11/15)...recorded three tackles, two solos, and had one sack versus Tennessee Tech (11/8)...had three solos tackles and a fumble forced in the Austin Peay game (11/1)...recorded two solo tackles and a tackle for loss against UT Martin (10/23)...had four tackles, two solos, and a pair of quarterback hurries versus Murray State (10/18)....credited with six tackles, two solos, and had a half sack against Eastern Kentucky (10/11)...had three solo stops with a pass break up against Southeast Missouri (10/4)...recorded two assisted tackles and a tackle for loss against Eastern Illinois (9/27)...credited with three tackles, one solo against Chattanooga (9/20)...saw his first action of the year against Alabama A&M (9/6), recording four tackles, one behind the line for seven yards.

2007:
Saw action in all 11 games of his freshman campaign as a Gamecock and was in the starting lineup for three of them…tied for the team lead with two interceptions and finished the season with 31 tackles, 22 solo, one sack, a forced fumble and a pass break-up…earned his first career start at Samford on Nov. 3 and was in the starting lineup for the rest of the season…against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 10, picked up a season-high eight tackles…recorded four solo stops and his first career sack at Southeast Missouri on Nov. 17…intercepted a pass in two games, at Memphis on Sept. 15 and against Tennessee Tech on Oct. 20.

2006:
Sat out the season as a redshirt.

HIGH SCHOOL:
Played at Lee High School in Huntsville for David O’Connor…was team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior and was the offensive MVP and was team captain as a senior…helped the Generals to the third round of the State Playoffs and finish with a 10-3 record…team also won the City Championship in 2005…finished senior season with 96 tackles and six interceptions…was an honorable mention All-State selection in 2005 and a two-time All-Region selection.

Full name is Jared Douglas Stewart…son of Janice Stewart…born on June 25, 1987…majoring in Exercise Science and Wellness at JSU.
